Do you have any quick tips for Clean Armor product application?
Yes, we do! You may review and print our quick tips sheet here: https://www.blucuresc.com/_files/ugd/685c06_2f5c040a500840069e55b47058284ed4.pdf
You may refer to the TDS documents located on our product pages for more specific applications information.
10
Should I order the Wood 757 top coats?
If you are a DIY user, we do not recommend Wood 757. This product is formulated to be very hard, consequently making it difficult to sand. We recommend the Wood 757 for commercial/professional use only. This is a tabletop finish intended to be used in restaurants where the table is going to take constant abuse.
If you are a DIY user, we recommend the Wood 700 and Wood 705 top coats.
11
Do I need to use a sealer on my wood project?
We recommend using a Clean Armor sealer, unless your wood has already been sealed (ex: an old end table should already have a sealer/coating on it). If you have an old finish on your project, lightly sand it and then apply your Clean Armor top coat.
If you are finishing raw or stained wood, you should apply the Wood 710 sealer or Wood 750 sealer (depending on your choice of top coat). We recommend 1-2 coats of the sealer; curing; lightly sanding; applying 1-2 coats of topcoat.
12
My sealer is soaking into the wood...what do I do?
If you applied the Clean Armor sealer and it disappeared or is blotchy looking, you need to apply more sealer and cure it: We recommend applying the sealer with a Purdy brand white roller and letting it sit for 2 minutes. After letting it sit, lightly (not hard!) back-wipe with a lint-free cloth to smooth out the surface. Then you cure it. You want your sealer to look glossy before moving on to your top coat.
13
Can I apply the Clean Armor in the sunlight?
No, we do not recommend this. You would need to use a tent over your workspace or apply in the dark. Even in the dark, there is still UV exposure and you are running a risk of your finish curing prematurely.
14
Does it matter what kind of light I use?
Yes. Sunlight will cure the product, but we recommend a CUVO light as they were created for Clean Armor. The products will take a few minutes longer to cure in the sunlight, and it depends on the UV level while you are outside. If you choose to look elsewhere for a light, make sure it is within the UVA wavelength range of 385-395 nm. This is the sweet spot that allows Clean Armor to cure in 2 minutes or less.
15
Why won't my Clean Armor cure?
Clean Armor has to be applied with at least 1 mil thickness, unless you are using the Wood 716. The 716 can be applied thinner. When applied at less than 1 mil, it will not cure. 99% of the time, if you are having this problem, it is because of a wet mil thickness issue.
16
Why is my Clean Armor wrinkling?
This occurs when your curing light is too close to your project, and/or when you have Clean Armor applied really thick. Please refer to the TDS, listed on the product page, for application information.
17
What is IPA? When do I use it?
IPA=isopropyl alcohol. We recommend using at least 91% IPA, no lower. We like to use 99% at our facility.
You can use IPA to thin your Clean Armor finish by mixing up to 10% into the product. IPA is also great for cleaning up any liquid Clean Armor spills.
18
Is Clean Armor really waterproof?
Yes! When applied and cured according to the appropriate TDS, Clean Armor will protect your project from water penetration. BluCure has applied Clean Armor on many tabletops and can affirm that the product protects from water and does not acquire water stains.
19
Is there a Clean Armor product similar to an oil rub finish?
Yes. The Wood 716 product was designed to look like an oil rub finish. It can be hand applied at a very thin film weight. This is a great product for a DIY user to work with. Please check out our YouTube channel @blucuresc to watch our video on Wood 716 application.
20
When should I use the 730 Grain Filler?
When the wood grain is uneven, before you apply your top coat, you might want to apply the Wood 730. It has the consistency of honey. Most customers pour it out and squeegee it around on a flat project piece (mostly used on tabletops/doors/mantles). Squeegee any excess product in the bottle. Let the product self level for 2 minutes before curing. This product will get you above the grain in ONE application.
If your Wood 730 is hard to pour out of the container, warm the bottle up in a water bath to improve flow.
21
Can I work with the lid off of my bottle?
No! Put the lid back on your Clean Armor product as soon as you are done pouring it off. There is always a chance that your shop lights will be within the wavelength range and could prematurely cure your product.
22
How do I know Clean Armor will work on my project?
It is always recommended that you purchase the smallest amount of Clean Armor available and then test it out on a scrap piece of your material before applying to your project. This way, if any questions come up, you can call or email us before starting your actual project.
23
How do I know what to order?
Call or email us and we would be happy to offer advice. info@blucuresc.com and 803-367-1016. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to ask for assistance.
24
What is a TDS? SDS?
A TDS is a Technical Data Sheet which provides insight as to how to apply that specific Clean Armor product. An SDS is a Safety Data Sheet which provides safety information based on the composition of the products. Both of these forms can be found on the product pages on our website for each respective product.
25
Does Clean Armor ever dry?
No. Clean Armor has to be cured within the 385-395 nm wavelength range. If you apply Clean Armor and never let it see that wavelength range, it will remain tacky. If you have exposed the Clean Armor to that range and it is still not curing, please refer to FAQ #15 for assistance.
26
Can I reuse my application cloth?
Sure, provided that you've stored it in a dark/black bag, away from light within the curing wavelength range.
27
Can I spray Clean Armor?
Absolutely. You can achieve a beautiful look when spraying Clean Armor. Because Clean Armor is a 100% solids system, it must be finely atomized when spraying. Please refer to our YouTube channel @blucuresc for some helpful tips. Here is a link to one of the videos to get you started: https://youtu.be/_ilCeBjOLfI?si=wnhjxIVzEAc3vRQe
If you still need help after viewing these videos, please give us a call and we will walk you through how to set up your specific spray gun. 803-367-1016
28
What is Filler Paste and how do I use it?
Our paste is an amazing product and is very popular. It has the consistency of Vaseline and comes in a small, lightweight jar (.25 lb). It is used to fill in cracks/holes/gaps in your substrate. It works similarly to wood putty but is clear and cures in 2 minutes. A lot of woodworkers enjoy using the Wood 737 Paste and adding dye-based black or brown stain to add depth.
29
What kind of stain can I use?
If you are applying the stain directly to your wood, you can use whatever you want. As long as the stain is fully dried before applying Clean Armor, everything will work properly. If the stain is not fully dried, the cured Clean Armor will trap any moisture that is trying to escape and will cause imperfections in your finish.
If you are mixing a stain with liquid Clean Armor, it needs to be dye-based. Here at BluCure, we like to use the Mohawk NGR dye-based stains. We recommend no more than a 10% concentration of stain being added to the finish. If the stain is too opaque, it will block the light that is needed to cure the Clean Armor properly. We recommend testing your concentration and process out on some scrap wood before applying to your project to ensure that the Clean Armor will cure.
30
Can I use Clean Armor on a poured epoxy table?
Yes. Please call (803-367-1016) for product recommendations specific to your needs.
31
I'm finishing cabinets. Can I apply Clean Armor on a vertical surface? Will it drip?
We have many customers who apply Clean Armor on cabinets and furniture with complete success. Clean Armor, when applied at the appropriate thickness, will not run/drip down the sides of your project. The appropriate thicknesses can be found on the respective TDS documents for each product.
32
What is the difference between Wood 700 and Wood 705?
The Wood 705 is intended for exterior use, and the Wood 700 is for interior use. Both products will look the same once cured, but they offer different levels of UV protection.
You can use the 705 outdoors and indoors, but you should not use the 700 outdoors. The Wood 700 is only for interior use. We have some customers who will use the Wood 705 on indoor tables/flooring that sit in direct sunlight.
33
I applied the Clean Armor and I have streaks/bubbles in it. Should I cure it?
No. Clean Armor will look the same after curing as it did when wet. If you cure those streaks into the Clean Armor, you will want to sand them out, which will take time (especially if you are using the Wood 757). Let the wet Clean Armor sit and self level for a few minutes, and if it still doesn't look desirable, wipe it off and reapply.
There are many applications based reasons for having streaks or bubbles in your finish. Please call or email us with questions so that we help you find a solution. info@blucuresc.com and 803-367-1016
34
Can I use a foam brush or lambs wool to apply Clean Armor? What can I use?
We do not recommend a black foam brush for applying Clean Armor. This type of brush will add air bubbles into your product. The lambs wool will not give as smooth a look as you would like.
We recommend using a lint-free cloth/t-shirt material/microfiber towel and wrapping it in pantyhose for a smoother application. Please refer to our YouTube channel, @blucuresc for more information. https://youtu.be/ihvV4rB8zyQ?si=LEu8mmqxVbGbcTT6
