When it comes to protecting and enhancing wood surfaces, choosing the right finish can make all the difference. Our team has quite a bit of experience with the Clean Armor Wood 700 and Clean Armor Wood 757 finishes. Both provide durability and a clean finish, but they serve different purposes and suit different users. In this post, we’ll explain the key differences between these two finishes and discuss why we suggest that our DIY customers lean toward the Clean Armor Wood 700 rather than the Wood 757.
How are the Wood 700 Interior Clear Coat and Wood 757 Commercial Tabletop Finish the Same?
Both of these finishes are designed as clear coats for wood that offer excellent protection while maintaining the natural beauty of the wood grain. They are Clean Armor UV finishes, allowing for a more drastically reduced application and curing time than traditional finishes, such as polyurethane or oil based finishes. With Clean Armor, you could be finished with your entire project in a matter of hours, not days/weeks.
Here are some of the key features of these two products:
Fast curing time: The finishes cure quickly (under 2 minutes when exposed to the correct UVA wavelength range), allowing you to complete your project in record time, and still achieve the highest quality finish.
Durability: They provide a tough, scratch-resistant surface that stands up well to everyday wear.
Clear, natural look: The finish dries clear without yellowing, preserving the wood’s original color.
UV protection: The UV blockers help prevent discoloration and degradation caused by sunlight. If you would like a product for outdoor use, the Clean Armor Wood 705 Exterior Clear Coat will offer additional UV protection.
What Is Different About Clean Armor Wood 700?
The Clean Armor Wood 700 Interior Clear Coat offers a balance of protection and ease of use. This product will be require little woodworking knowledge to use, and is perfect for DIY customers and Commercial customers alike.
Easier to sand: This finish will be easier to sand. This is important for first-time woodworkers, as mistakes are easily made the first time around. If you cure bubbles or dust particles into your finish, you will want to sand those imperfections out. With the Wood 700 finish, you will use less sandpaper during this process, thus taking less time and saving you some money in sandpaper.
While this finish will be easier to sand, that means it is not as durable as the Wood 757 finish. The Wood 700 is still scratch resistant and very hard, but the Wood 757 will be even more so.
What Is Different About Clean Armor Wood 757?
The Clean Armor Wood 757 Commercial Tabletop Finish is designed for industrial use, such as in a hotel, restaurant, or store setting. This finish will be even more durable than the Clean Armor Wood 700 finish.
We typically do not recommend this finish to our DIY customers as this product will require more expertise when it comes to sanding the material, due to the increased durability/hardness. It can be frustrating for a first-time woodworker to use this finish; application mistakes are easy to make your first time around, and sanding those mistakes out of the harder Wood 757 finish won't be as easy as the Wood 700 will be.
Here’s what sets the Wood 757 Tabletop Finish apart:
Extremely durable finish: Once cured, it forms a very hard surface that is ideal for high-traffic or commercial/industrial wood surfaces.
Examples of surfaces to use the Wood 757 on:
Commercial or in-home wood flooring
High-use furniture in public spaces
Wood surfaces exposed to heavy wear and tear
While the Wood 757 offers superior durability, the application process tends to be more technical and less forgiving for inexperienced woodworkers.
However, no matter who applies this product, the result will be a beautiful finish - especially with the technical support of BluCure!
